The Political Awareness and Involvement Committee promotes civic engagement by educating and empowering members and the community on issues that impact our daily lives. Through voter education, advocacy, and community outreach, the committee encourages informed participation in the democratic process.
The mission of social action in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is to promote leadership, advocacy, and empowerment to effect social change and public policy. National Social Action Issue Priorities: Voting and Civic Engagement, Economic Justice, Educational Justice, Environmental Justice, Health Equity, Reimagining Public Safety, and Reproductive Freedom.
The Social Action Committee implements the chapter’s Political Awareness and Involvement thrust, plans chapter social action activities and programs in the local community in alignment with the national social action priorities and established policy positions.
We educate and raise awareness around systemic issues and policies that negatively impact our communities. Throughout the years, SVA has been actively involved in voter registration, voter education through candidate forums and proposition webinars, voter mobilization, and Adopt-a-Poll management. We have advocated in support or opposition for federal, state, and local legislation, and attended national and state social action conferences. Our program has included raising human trafficking awareness, workshops designed to assist and empower single parents and displaced homemakers, youth visits to the state capital, and community organization collaborations
